About
This course looks at the history of photography and its more recent digital developments through five thematic approaches. Each topic will provide a temporal arc that will reveal the specificities of the photographic medium through time. The examples will showcase how concepts like indexicality, manipulation, circulation, agency and consumption play specific roles throughout the history of the photographic image.
Learning Objectives
Students will develop an understanding of the history of photography all the way to contemporary digital and networked images. They will learn how the traditions of photography inform contemporary images, but at the same time they are transformed and challenged by new technical and cultural understanding of the image.

Inhalt
Dieser Kurs betrachtet die Geschichte der Fotografie und ihre jüngeren digitalen Entwicklungen anhand von fünf thematischen Zugängen. Jedes Thema bildet einen zeitlichen Bogen, der die Besonderheiten des fotografischen Mediums im Verlauf der Zeit sichtbar macht. Die Beispiele zeigen, welche spezifische Rolle Konzepte wie Indexikalität, Manipulation, Zirkulation, Handlungsmacht und Konsum in der Geschichte des fotografischen Bildes jeweils spielen.
Lernziele des Moduls
Die Studierenden entwickeln ein Verständnis für die Geschichte der Fotografie bis hin zu zeitgenössischen digitalen und vernetzten Bildern. Sie lernen, wie die Traditionen der Fotografie zeitgenössische Bilder prägen, während diese zugleich durch neue technische und kulturelle Verständnisse des Bildes transformiert und herausgefordert werden.
